Barbara J. (Tate) Essig 87 of Indianapolis, IN passed away October 6, 2019. Barbara was born to James and Margaret Tate on June 19, 1932. She was a graduate of Washington High School in Indianapolis, IN. Barb married Verlon “Bud” Essig in 1952. Together they raised five children: Debbie, Cindy, Cheryl, Dede, and Scott. Barb retired from Warren Township Schools in 1986 as a matron. After retiring, Barb and Bud moved to Florida in 1986 and returned to Indiana in 2009. Barb was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron of New Palestine Chapter #213 1985-1986. Her dedication to helping others is well remembered by those that knew her. Barbara faithfully served her family and everyone she met that was in need.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Verlon “Bud” Essig and her brother Donald Tate. She survived by her children Debbie Essig of Muncie, IN, Cindy Essig of Indianapolis, IN, Cheryl (Essig) Schopmeyer (John) of Talbot, TN, Dede (Essig) Lane of Kennesaw, GA, and Scott Essig of Indianapolis, IN and six grandchildren Amanda, Mitch, and Madison Schopmeyer and Kristin, Kelli, and Kacie Lane. Barbara is also survived by her sisters Pat (Tate) Milnes and Janice (Tate) Tallman, and brothers Dave Tate and Rick Tate.
