Artemis (Panagon) Hoke entered into eternal life on November 21, 2022. She was born August 3, 1925, to Evangelos and Erifili (Demopoulos) Panagon in Logansport, Indiana. She attended Purdue University for two years where she met her husband Charles Eliot Hoke. Artemis and Charles were wed on June 27,1948 in Logansport, IN. He preceded her in death in 2004.
A graduate of St. Mary’s College, Artemis earned her Master’s degree from Indiana University. She taught for 26 years in the South Bend School system at O’Brien Elementary and James Monroe Schools. After retiring from public schools, Artemis traveled throughout Indiana and Ohio teaching her Greek Mythology Curriculum. She also served as an Adjunct Faculty at l.U. South Bend. Artemis was a lifelong member of St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church in South Bend where she was Director of the Sunday School for 34 years. She was a member of the daughters of Penelope, Gaia Chapter 60 for 56 years.
She will be dearly missed by her three children, son Nick Efthimiou and his wife, Anna, Helen Hoke Laskaris and her husband, Peter, and Marian Hoke Whittaker and her husband, Scott.
Artemis leaves grandchildren Nicole (Efthimiou) Wilson and husband Brian, Dino Efthimiou and wife, Stacey; Steve Nicholakis; Athan Laskaris and wife, Jessica; Nick Laskaris and wife, Maia; and Carly Nicholakis Klostermeier and her husband, Kirk.
Artemis is survived by eight great grandchildren: Amalia and Sophia Wilson, Ariston Nicholakis, Niko and Maia Efthimiou, Niko and Eliana Laskaris, and Nora Laskaris.
Also surviving her are nieces Diana Johnston Geisler and Mary Martha Johnston.
The Rev. Fr. Gregory Hohnholt will officiate at the funeral service which will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022, with visitation one hour prior.
The visitation and funeral will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3500 W 106th Street, Carmel, IN 43062.
Burial will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Logansport, IN. May her memory be eternal. Heartfelt thanks to Transitions Hospice and Palliative Care, and Westside Garden Assisted Living.
