Antonios Andreas Gounaris, 97, of Indianapolis, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023. He was born on May 23, 1925, in Syneti-Andros, Greece to the late Andreas and Asimena (Coumarianos) Gounaris.
Antonios served in the Greek Navy before travelling to the United States. He retired in 1984 from St. Luke’s Hospital in Massachusetts.
Antonios is survived by his wife, Helen; sons, Anastasios and George; granddaughters Eleni Miller, Katrina Livanos, Chrysoula Gounaris and Alexis Gounaris; and five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Andreas and Asimena; sons John and Andrew; and siblings John, George, Theodore and Margiora.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023, from 4-7pm at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with a Trisagion service at 6:30pm. Additional visitation will take place at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Friday morning from 10-11am, with a funeral service immediately following. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in New Bedford, MA at a later date.
In memory of Antonios memorial contributions may be given to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
