Ann Elizabeth “Betty” Schmutte, 99, of Avon, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. She was born on April 17, 1917 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Lewis and Margaret (Johnson) Williams. Betty was a 1935 graduate of St. John’s High School in Indianapolis and worked for over 20 years as a secretary for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for over 50 years, where she sang in the choir and volunteered as a Sacristan. Betty is survived by her sons, Nick (Helen) Schmutte, John (Barbara) Schmutte, Richard Schmutte; daughter-in-law, Judy Schmutte; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her brother, Glenn Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence “Bud” Schmutte; son, Stephen Schmutte; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Visitation for Mrs. Schmutte will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 from 4pm-8pm at Flanner and Buchanan – Speedway. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 1pm in St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
