Amanda Jane Jones passed away on Sunday, entering into eternal life in the Kingdom of
Heaven following a noble battle with cancer. Family and friends will be celebrating her life at
Valley Mills Christian Church on Thursday, July 5th. Viewing hours will be from 11:00 AM –
1:00 PM with a service to follow.
She joins seven of her eight siblings and her beloved son Jason Jones. Her sister Theda
Wilhelm sat by her side throughout her final hours. She was surrounded by family members
who have been taking vigilant care of her for the last few weeks as they shared laughs, sang
songs, and told stories about her (at least the ones that she would allow).
She is survived by her loving husband Joe Jones and two sons, Troy Jones and Joe
Christopher Jones; her daughter-in-laws, who knew her as intimately and affectionately as
their own mothers, Linda Jones and Jennifer Jones; her grandchildren Sarah Golden,
Samantha Ransom, Emily Sifers, Austin Jones, and Jason Jones; their significant others who
she treated as her very own; and Violet Golden, her lone great granddaughter, who was just
as strong and precocious as her “Sis.”
Her gentleness was only rivaled by her generosity as she constantly spoiled all her “grand
babies,” especially in the form of her incomparable fudge recipe. She entertained them with
stories of her extensive adventures, many of which were even true. From the Pyramids of Giza
to the Dome of the Rock to the sands of Hawaii she saw nearly every wonder in the world, yet
she was captivated more by her dear family.
She co-founded and co-owned a thriving business, Jones Tire, probably as an excuse to
spend more time with her boys. In her spare time, she served in the nursery at Valley Mills
Christian Church (to make up for all the great grandchildren she didn’t have yet) and poured
her spare change into the slots. She was the only person The House could never win against.
The only thing that had more to fear from her than the Casinos, was any speck of dirt that
dared go any further than her kitchen door. Every stain in her immaculate house met a swift
demise at her hands which could seemingly summon bleach at will.
She never sought the spotlight—in fact, she frequently avoided it—but her humility and love
constantly drew the attention of her loved ones. While her legacy of constant service,
deference, and selflessness will continue through everyone she ever loved, her fudge recipe,
sadly, will not.
