Alma Darlene Browning
84, of Indianapolis, passed away August 29, 2017. She was born on November 18, 1932 in Scioto County, Ohio as the daughter of Elmer and Annes Scott.
Darlene attended High School in Otway, Ohio. After the death of her father, she stayed at home to help her mother and take care of her siblings. While working in a local drugstore, Darlene met her future husband, Jim Browning. The two were married on August 11, 1956. They relocated their growing family to the Indianapolis area. Darlene spent most of her days as a stay-at-home mom, where she was not only known as mom to her own kids, but to many of the neighborhood kids as well. Darlene and the family became involved in the North Eastwood Swim Club. After her kids started school, Darlene took on a part-time job at the local Wendy’s where everyone loved her and knew her as Mom. During Darlene and Jim’s later years, they were part of an unofficial breakfast club, where they spent mornings eating at Bob Evans and Sero’s many times a week. Darlene never met a stranger and was a mother to all. Her love and affection will be greatly missed.
Darlene is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jim Browning; children, Debbie (Jerry) Mounce, David (Jenni) Browning, Dennis (Beth Morefield) Browning, and Kim (Ed) Mullins; step-daughter, Pam Myers. She is also survived by grandchildren; Jessica Browning, Kraig Browning, Zack Browning, Patrick Browning, Tanner Mounce and Roger Pullum, 1 great-grandchild, Aubree; and siblings, Tippie Bellomy, Phyllis Thacker, Danny Scott, and Gary Scott.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Shawn Browning; and 2 siblings, Jim (Buster) Scott and Janet Shultz.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 from 10am to 1pm at Flanner and Buchanan – Memorial Park. Funeral service will immediately follow at 1pm, also at the funeral center. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be given to the March of Dimes.
