Alberta H. Hill (Bert), 87, left her earthly body to meet Jesus on May 1, 2016. She was a resident of Indianapolis for most of her life. Bert was born in Buffalo, New York, on December 22, 1928 to Michael and Martha Gorski.
Bert was an avid bridge player and was a member of a bridge club that met and played every Wednesday at MCL. She also enjoyed the beach, playing golf and playing cards with family. She has passed on a deep love of all genres of music. She loved words and almost always won at Scrabble. She could out-shop almost anyone and loved a bargain.
Her grandchildren will remember her pantry that was always fully stocked with a variety of chocolate and jelly bellies. Her home was filled with fine art, family photos and humorous tchotchkes and trinkets that reflected her taste and sense of humor.
For being so small, she left a huge mark on our planet and on our hearts. She will never be forgotten by those of us who knew her and loved her. She was so many things that it is impossible to even list them. She had a great sense of humor and liked to laugh a lot. She was smart, savvy and had a sense of style. She was strong and yet fragile, opinionated and tenacious but also at times she could be responsive and persuaded. She was soft, pliable and inviting, but could also be hard headed and stubborn. She was a pistol in every sense of the word and you couldn’t help but love her dearly.
I know she has already gathered a group together who likes to do a little gambling and that heaven will never be the same with her there.
Her earthly ministry was instrumental in helping many others. She was a faithful friend and a woman of deep faith and prayer. She offered wisdom and counsel to all who were in need. Her strength and dignity will be missed by all who knew her.
Bert was preceded in death by her husband Charles J. Hill. She is survived by her children; Claudia Campbell (James), Jamie Schlink (James), Laura Schroedle, Thomas Corey (Andrea). She leaves behind 8 grandchildren; Emily, Sarah, Matt, Luke, Emma, Hannah, Jonah and Jaden. And her 5 great grandchildren; Max, Tyler, Liam, Roxie and Ari.
