Hoosier Patriot Memorial at Washington Park East Cemetery and Funeral Center
Indiana’s first memorial to the Indiana National Guard is located at Washington Park East. The memorial was built through donations from private citizens that value what the Guard has meant to Indiana.
Each Memorial Day, families join us at the Memorial to honor the men and women that gave their lives protecting our nation’s freedom.
Past speakers have included former Indiana Governor Michael R. Pence; Major General R. Martin Umbarger, the adjutant General of Indiana; and former Indianapolis Mayor Gregory A. Ballard.
Hamilton Memorial Park
Each Memorial Day, the program at Hamilton Memorial Park includes music from a Navy Band, bagpipers, trumpeters, a 21-gun salute honoring our nation’s fallen heroes, and a three-volley salute to Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines.
The event also includes a reading of all veterans laid to rest at Hamilton Memorial Park.
Past speakers have included Honorable Eric Holcomb, Governor of Indiana and Major General Courtney P. Carr, the Adjutant General of Indiana.
Field of Flags at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens
Our annual display of 500 flags draws families from throughout the region. It is made possible by the hard work of many people who dedicate their time to this annual effort.
Not only is it quite a sight to behold, it also demonstrates the honor and respect our community holds for our armed services.
