Flanner Buchanan has gone to great lengths to ensure the cremation of your loved one is done properly and documented accurately. We have created and adhere to standards and procedures higher than those required by Indiana law to give our families the best service possible. In 150 years of doing business, we’ve found that families appreciate knowing more about our specialized facilities and exactly how we handle the entire cremation process in house.
Dedicated Cremation Center
We created Montcalm Cremation Burial in order to provide the highest level of service to families. The entire cremation process takes place right here in a clean, distinguished setting. We do not outsource our services or transfer cremated remains to an offsite facility—your loved one never leaves our expert care.
Centrally located within the heart of Riverside, Montcalm Cremation Burial maintains historic architectural charms while offering the latest technology, modern furnishings and unmatched expertise. Every cremation is closely supervised by the Flanner Buchanan staff, which is comprised of licensed funeral directors and technicians certified by the Cremation Association of North America.
Excellence of Cremation Process
- Your Loved One Never Leaves Our Care.
Many other funeral homes hire third-party crematories, typically located in a warehouse district. These funeral homes transfer your loved one to outside cremation services, making it impossible for the funeral home to manage and supervise the cremation. We have our own crematory, so all your services are handled and managed by our certified staff and your loved one never leaves our care.
- Safeguarding Personal Identity
To ensure security, a personal identification band is placed on your loved one at the moment they’re transferred into our care.
- Tracking System
Your loved one is registered into our tracking system and assigned an identification number, which is stamped into a stainless steel identification tag. This number is used to track every phase of the cremation process. Our tracking system includes date and time of arrival at our facility and name of the transfer technician. Personal belongings are cataloged and placed in a secure area for their return to the family.
- Saying Goodbye
We will bathe and dress your loved one in the clothing provided by the family. Then we will ask you, or a representative, to positively identify him or her prior to cremation.
- Cremation Assurance Process Checks and Balances
Our certified crematory operator will review all cremation paperwork. This is to ensure authorizations have been received and have been properly documented. Our crematory registry is dated and initialed by the certified operator before and after the cremation. The crematory documents are placed on the outside of the cremation chamber during the cremation process. The stainless steel identification tag is placed in the cremation chamber with your loved one. Once all documentation is verified, our certified operator will proceed with the cremation.
- After the Cremation
After the cremation is complete, the cremated remains are placed in the selected urn with the stainless steel identification tag.

We always treat families like our own. We will assist you in planning a meaningful ceremony which will provide an opportunity for family and friends to pay tribute to your loved one and to share the memories of a lifetime.
- Receiving Cremated Remains, Final Disposition, & Memorialization
Our professional planners are specially trained to assist you with memorialization options and an appropriate placement for family, friends, and future generations to pay their respects. If no memorialization has been selected, our staff will schedule a time for receipt of the cremated remains and provide a dignified setting in which to receive the urn where you may spend a few moments in quiet reflection.
